COCKY EEK creates lightweight spatial compositions, where we don’t move through space, but space moves through us. The physical experiences of her spatial work, often give the suggestion of flying, floating, or brain-silence. She allows the audience to be submerged in physical and sensorial experiences, which connect us with the deeper layers of ourselves and of our surroundings.

short bio
COCKY EEK (1966) studied Fashion Design [BA/MA] from 1984- 1989 in the Netherlands, France and Italy and set off with a wearable collection 'Fashion is Ugly, You have to Change it Every Half Year' nominated for the Salon des jeunes stylistes (1994) Hyeres, FR. In collaboration with Maria Blaisse for the 'Kuma Guna' dance costumes led to a nomination for the Dutch Design Awards (1997). Through the years Eek's favorite materials became wind and air and she began designing lightweight spatial compositions, floating or flying experiments and large, voluminous forms. She has been an active member of FoAM, an international cultural laboratory in Brussels, between 2001 and 2016. She co-founded FoAM Amsterdam in 2005 and received Prix Ars Electronica Honorary Mention 2011 for the urban foraging project 'Boskoi'. In 2012 she created Sphaerae, an inflatable multi-dome pavilion for immersive and syneasthetic experiences, shown on a growing number of media-art festivals. Since 2013 Cocky Eek collaborates with Schweigman& and co-created the performances Blaas, Erf, Curve and Landing Sites. Besides her artistic practice she is a core teacher at the ArtScience Interfaculty of the Royal Conservatoire and the Royal Arts Academy in The Hague since 2011.

Her work has among been presented at platforms as Sonic Acts NL, Le Lieue Unique FR, Ars Electronica AUS, ISEA Albuquerque USA, Todaysart NL, AxS festival USA and the Oerol Festival Nl.
